Beat the mini games to win the girl
Nintendo DS

Graphics 7.8/10
Gameplay 8.3/10
Sound 8.0/10
Lastability 8.2/10
Overall 8.2/10

Need some help at getting the girl of your dreams? This game probably won’t help but its pretty fun in any case.Project Rub is a mini game based game that follows the story of a guy that wants to be with this girl. To do so he joins a zany group of performers called the Rub rabbits. This begins the guys journey into a mass of mini game madness.

The game is broken up into chapters. Each chapter begins with its own cut scene and then comic scene. Depending on the type of chapter it is the player can select from just one or up to three games to complete. Once a mini game is completed a set amount of love is filled in the heart bar. This determines how many games you need to finish until the chapter is complete. You can repeat the same mini game until it fills up the whole bar. Once the heart bar is filled you move onto the next chapter.

The games themselves range from average to very good. Nothing stands out too much and there are few duds. Most of them require using the touch screen to move, hit or direct something. There’s a few microphone and blowing games as well. Not a heap of variety just different ways to do the same thing. Most game concepts are made out of ridiculous situations such as the main character being eaten by a snake or hitting the scorpions off your girls back. There not meant to make sense there meant to make use of the DS touch screen. My favourite games are the cleverly designed ones, for example you and the girl are on an island and your clothes are wet, you need to dry her clothes by letting the fire continue burning and also undo her buttons at the same time, neato. Similar to a few DS games that have been released Project Rub doesn’t use the regular buttons at all and relies on the touch screen to do everything.

There are close to 30 mini games in the overall game. Not to forget unlockable content and harder difficulty levels. One of my favourite extras is that you can buy clothes for your girl. There is a range of 3 items, hair, torso and legs. The range is nice, you get different hair colours, bras, mini skirts and boots. Very kool.

The sounds effects accompany the overall quirky theme to the game. With weird tunes and interesting voices from the cast. The music is sometimes a bit hard on the ears and clashes which will prompt you to turn the sound down. Most of the time its bearable, but not for everyones tastes. The voice acting is in english but is done by Japanese people, so most of the time the voice acting is strange and a bit out there. The groovy sounds flow nicely with the art direction. Its simple but it is rather effective. It makes the game feel more like a package. In game graphics aren’t bad for a DS launch title but have some noticeable flaws. Textures aren’t the greatest and are often pixelated. There is also a limitation on the amount of 3D used, since too many of the mini games are in 2D which is quite disappointing. Something that really impressed me was the opening cut scene which is really sexy. Animation in the mini games is a bit sudden but everything else is animated relatively well. The mini game graphics aren’t much but the cut scenes do look nice.

Closing comments

Sonic team have created a new and unique franchise to add to their stable. Project Rub is an interesting title that plays quite well. Its got a few flaws but plays well enough to enjoy for a while. A nice addition to the DS library.

I Walk My Life So Blind it Hurts My Eyes

Most listened : Richard Ashcroft : Keys to the World

Most played : Wii Sports

Current mood : Humbled

Wow its been over a week since I’ve written in here. So much has happened but I have continuously put it off as I haven’t been in the mood to write. Thats the thing that I’ve noticed about these holidays is that I’ve thrown the daily routine out of the window and am focusing on doing what I feel like and just working at that. Its easier to progess in something if your in the mood for it.

It doesn’t matter about my lateness of posting as no one will read this until I upload it. I think that I might just set up a vanilla wordpress set up and then get everything ordered so at least people can read what I write.

Last week

Anyways so what has happened. I had a haircut on Monday, spent the rest of Monday and also Tuesday working on Designer Impulse stuff, the template and also preparing a super secret staff splash screen. I also got GTA SA (finally) working well on my laptop. I installed the latest drivers to start off with but that didn’t fix it. So I rolled back to the previous ones and then cleared gta_set and it worked. But now I get 2 alerts when I start windows stating 2 seperate missing dll files. Argh.Ah well I’m pleased that its actually working well.

On the Thursday Chris and I picked up the Wii and a few items to boot:

  • Wii console + Wii Sports
  • extra nunchuck and controller + Wii Play
  • Red Steel
  • Zelda TP
  • Super Monkey Ball 3

And we played that all afternoon. On the Friday Matt came around for the whole day, 11hrs I think. He stayed for lunch and tea.

I was relieved to have a good weekend to myself, well so I though. I only had 5hrs, which was kinda odd. But I was called in to work for both days, all day. It was insanely busy. I don’t seem to be getting as many hours as some of the other electrical staff. Its always been this way I think. As we are all the same age and I am the least experienced. I should be fortunate though as another staff member got 48hrs this week. I couldn’t bare to work that much.

And today I went to bed early in the morning as I was on the net reading up about stuff on Wikipedia. I’ve registered and hope to somehow contribute in some way. I was researching Australian and American retail outlets, brand names, lingustics and anthropolgy.

Today has been a fairly short one for me. Working on some Metroid Prime 2 which I was stuck on this time last year and hadn’t finished it on Hard mode. Going to John’s tommorow. Working Wednesday night. As for the rest of the week its sorta up in the air. I’ve tried to organise another of our anime watching sessions(WGA). But people are free except for the day in which someone else is busy. So someone would have to miss out. So its too hard to figure out. But I think Matt is organising to see Casino Royale with Andrew, Chris and myself. Ah the old days. And I also need to finish up my Christmas shopping and may need to buy some anime for Matt’s folks to give him for Christmas. So I may as well finish up that business this week so that next week something will work out.

I reckon that I’ll post another entry later on about what I think of the Wii. Its great and all but I haven’t touched Zelda or Red Steel yet. I just wanna clear out some of the games that have been plaguing me for the last 2 years so that I can start a fresh on the stuff thats come out this year. I’ve cleared off plenty of titles so far, around 5 titles which is great. Wanna clear Metroid Prime 2 and the GBA Pokemon titles. I know I’m playing these games over new games like Zelda. When discpline overides common sense eh?

And If You Want it, Just Come and Get it, For Crying Out Loud!

December 3, 2006

Most listened : Bright Lights : Matchbox 20

Lets see here, its been a somewhat busy past few days. I’ve been so exhausted these past few days. On the Friday night I went to a surprise party for one our family friends. We were late but still got their for he surprise. We haven’t seen them for a few years as we’ve all been too busy and they’ve been living in America for a while. So we got to catch uo with them which was really great.

On Saturday we had 15% off store wide so it was the busiest day I’ve worked in a long time. That night we had to help Mum to replace the waterbed as it had spring a leak and then tonight I’ve helped set up the Christmas tree.

We also got a phone call from our local EB store. They are having Wii launch nights all over the country and wanted to inform us about the local one. Turns out that they have over 300 preorders for the system just for that store. Chris has just informed me that there are 30 000 preorders in Australia which is almost of all the Gamecubes sold down here.

I’ve also finished 2 games this week. Metroid Zero Mission and Project Rub both 100%. Which is rather pleasing.

Got a few things planned next week, but still plenty of room to move. Anyways thats it.
