Stephen Welton’s Blogging Success Challenge!

June 20, 2007

It may surprise that you that although I blog about videogames I don’t really read many video game blogs. Most of the blogs that I read are about internet entrepreneurs, blogging and success. I find these blogs very motivating and inspiring.

Today I wanted to share something that a fellow blogger wrote about success. Stephen Welton set his readers a challenge, titled Stephen Welton?’s Blogging Success Challenge! Stephen’s idea is that visual images of what we want to achieve in life continuously inspire us to try and reach that goal. This is because when we visualize that image it reminds us of how much we want to be successful and it motivates us to do so. Now Stephen’s challenge was for his readers to:

Go out and take a photo of something you want of something you really care about that you consider to be part of YOUR success. It could be something you already achieved or something you want. It could be something you consider important to you like your family. Whatever it is post it on your site explaining how and WHY it?’s part of YOUR success and the feelings you associate to it.

So here is my image:

Racoon Mario from Super Mario Bros. 3

Probably doesn’t make a lot of sense right? Allow me to explain. When I reflect back on my life I always remember that I was the most happiest when I was a child. Growing up my brother and I where the biggest fans of Super Mario Bros. And nothing made us happier than Mario. We loved that Italian so much.

Something that I strive for in life is working hard and being happy with my life. And nothing represents that more so than Mario in his finest form(Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World). Therefore my success is being happy with my life. I definitely believe that I currently live a happy life but I don’t think that I am as happy as I could be.

To live an even happier life I think that I need to have more time and freedom for my creative output. So once I finish Uni, get some more time to build some projects of my own and have more balance in life. Therefore being happy is a continuous goal of mine.

I encourage other bloggers to take part in this clever blogging challenge. All of the details can be found here. I hope that you find this concept as helpful and insightful as I have.

Personal Posting101

June 17, 2007

Most listened The MasterPlan – Oasis
Most played - Sega Megadrive Collection(PS2)

Its been over a month since I posted my last personal blog entry. My blogging habits are definitely evolving with the shift in direction for PrimeScape. Admittingly I have been holding off writing a personal entry as I just wanted to finish all of my Uni work and I just have to ‘close the chapter’.University

Uni life has been going fine. Being the end of the semester I’ve had plenty of work to do. Thankfully I currently only have one exam left which is Chinese. I have completed my 2 major linguistics essays, my design exam and a phonetics assignment.

Beyond the workload everything has been bumping along pretty typically, I haven’t seen my mates much in the last week as I have been dead set focused on getting all of this work out of the way. But now that its over that is going to change.

Something that I’ve been interested in lately is linguistic relativity. I did a group seminar presentation and essay on it. Its a pretty interesting concept, which is that:

Our thoughts and perception of reality are controlled/effected by the language(s) that we know

I was very happy with our group, I was with 2 Chinese students(one being an exchange student) and they did an awesome job. ^_^

Working Evolution

In the past month I have only been getting 1 shift a week at work. Which is a change from the previous month in which I was given all of the hours I could get. But I’m cool with it. I have so many other things that I’d rather be doing. I’m not fussed about the money.

Out store has been evolving like made as well. We are closing down as our store has been bought out by Myer(one of Australia’s best quality retailers, if not the best). The store has been flipped on its head. The beloved electrical department that I work in is now in a tiny corner downstairs. :( The store closure has also been brought forward a month which made me really happy as I have a holidays full of no work. Awesome!

All of the staff are being kept on, I have my job offer next week. Its too good, I am so wrapped to be working for such a prestigious store. I’m also looking forward to the shift in focus towards customer service which is what I enjoy doing.

Future Work

Now that I have more time on my hands I plan on publishing more of my content up on the web. I have already started this with some non artistic photos on my flickr account. I’ve also added my Contempory Gardener Newsletter to my deviant account. I still have a bunch of old photos to publish from months ago as well as some other stuff.

Thats all that I have to say on myself. Thanks for reading, there should be a flurry of new stuff to check out soon. So thanks for reading.

This Weeks Linkies – Now a Regular Segment!

June 13, 2007

G’day people thanks for tuning in. Its been a while since I’ve written something not related to anything. In the next few days I’ll probably put out something about how my personal life is actually going but until then we have: This weeks linkies.I’ve decided to turn this into a regular segment which I shall try to post bi-weekly. And as its a regular segment now it deserves its own header. Okay lets get into it.

I’ve been saving this one up for a while now. Its a link to an IGN article about a photoshoot with all of the Tomb Raider models. That is models that have cosplayed(I guess) as Lara Croft. For some reason they are suited up in the typical Lara Croft get up. But it makes for a good link anyways. So check it out.

Talking about Tomb Raider, GameTrailers has had a few good video reviews recently including Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. I love video reviews. Screw Attack also have a bunch of new stuff out as well. So check them out.

My brother has also linked me to a site which scans your last.fm account and ranks your mainstream level. Out of my friends on last.fm I was the most mainstream. I’m not really sure if thats a negative or positive thing actually, not sure.

Apple has also released a beta version of their internet browser; Safari for Windows platforms. You can get it for yourself here. Unfortunately when I loaded my Safari up this problem occurred:

I’m not sure what is going on, the language is totally messed up and there was something in the search box as well. Damn, looks like I am stuck with Opera. Oh well.

I’ve been catching up on some old feeds from a blog that I read about the problems in China. I had to cycle thru 106 feeds but I can thankfully say that I am thru them all. :D I just want to point out one post about censorship on blogging in China. Take a read.

I’ve been on the search for retro video game blogs this week as I have a thirst for all things old school gaming. I can’t stop playing the old titles, they are just so great. On my search for blogging goodness I stumbled upon an excellent blog. Initially I didn’t think much of the site, the design is rather basic and it looks a little drab but the posts are of excellent content. Proving the theory that content is king. Anyways if you are like me and need some nostalgia then take a look.

This week I have been working on setting up accounts for 2 social network sites, they are flickr and FaceBook. So far I am pretty happy with how I am going. If you have an acount with these servies then feel free to add me or whatever.

As a final closing note I would like to plug a blogging buddy of mine Alun Lower whom is now a reviews editor for the website; N-Galaxy. Congrats buddy. You may have also noticed that he’s blog Virtua Blogger is now on my blogroll. It’s always good to do some link exchanging.

Anyways, that concludes ‘This weeks linkies’. Thanks for reading. Be sure to give me a heads up in the comment box if you found any of these links useful or if you have the same annoying problem in Safari as myself.

RSS Folders Problem Fixed Opera

June 8, 2007

Now if your like me you like everything to be nice and organised. I am an Opera browser user and unfortunately in Opera you cannot sort your RSS feeds into folders. This is a feature that really should be added in future versions. You can add filters to your feeds but they just don’t work as well as they should do.

So I thought of this quick fix, basically I just add ‘Category Name -’ to the front of the feed and Opera automatically sorts out all of the feeds into alphabetical order. Sure its a mega basic idea but it might help someone else out there.
