Risks Revised: A Blogging Revision

July 16, 2007

Hey guys, I think that now is the right time for me to talk about a few new blogging projects that I have been secretly working on. Of course I need a bit of reasoning to back this up, hence a:

Prologue

It all started about 2 weeks ago, I had decided to conduct a survey for PrimeScape in order to get some solid feedback for site and content improvements. Overall the feedback was very useful. It reconfirmed my thoughts about the site; being that I write some good stuff which is worth a few visits but I am still a long way off of writing some major gold.

Something that really stood out in the survey responses was that one person said that there was too much variety in the site’s content. This has been a problem that I have been weary of for some time now. So after a few hours dwelling on how I could constructively use the feedback to improve the site, I came out with the following outcome.

Outcome

To create an additional 2 blogs to support my growing hunger towards a large variety of content. This would then make each blog more specified and hence address a number of slight directional issues with PrimeScape.

Once I had finalised the conclusion I decided to pour all of my resources into this adventurous new project. Within a few days I had finalised all of the designs and written up a healthy does of content. I’d also spent ample time researching which has also been an excellent benefit.

Only a few days ago I stepped back and put this idea into perspective. After going to the drawing board(once again). I concluded that 3 sites would be too much to handle with my timetable. So I decided to bin one of the blogs. Well thats enough of me talking around these new sites, here’s the run down:

PrimeScape(revised edition)

2-3 months ago I decided to turn the focus of PrimeScape away from being a personal blog and into a gaming blog. This has been a great success but I still feel a bit locked into the clockwork of posting about my personal life. Thankfully I am falling out of this swing and beggining to develop a much better rythm for writing about VG.

Web Success

This new blog is about…well the title will say it all. But to break it down for you; I’ll be writing about web marketing, motivation, lifestyle and success. I am definetly not an expert in these fields but I cannot help but be overwhelmed by the post ideas that I have brainstormed for these topics. I must have a strange insaitiability spread the knowledge that I have on these topics. Hence the blog was created.

Expectations

So you’ve read all of that hoo-ha which you probably won’t find useful. What you want to know is, what are the benefits. Basically I have invested a lot of my holiday time blogging and my writing skills have definetly improved because of it. I am now also rereading every post that I did to wipe out mistakes. So expect much better quality content all around.

For PrimeScape, I have been spending my time researching/devising topics that are overall more specified and also much more interesting. I have a number of feature segments on the way as well. Probably a maximum of about 7, but I am likely to start off with 3 or so. Also I’ve been banking some articles to ensure that when I do get busy, there will still be a consistent line up of content. PrimeScape is also seeing(another redesign) this time much greater, the redesign addresses the few remaining design flaws.

For Web Success I currently have around 15 finished articles. There’s a number of almost finished ones as well which aren’t included. So once it releases I am expecting about 20 new articles in the bank. Awesomeness. The site(as well as PS) will also have a bunch of new plugins.

All of this shall happen fairly soon, starting in the next few days for the new blog and then moving onto PrimeScape. So I hope that you look forward to the new changes. I apologise for the lack of content coming in recently. As you have just read, I am doing plenty of writing recently. Now that most of the foundation work is finished I am already preparing more content with great haste.

Home Improvement The path to a better PrimeScape

May 23, 2007

I’ve been working hard this year on PrimeScape and I’ve gotten to a point were I am happy with everything. I look at the site’s design and how attractive and user friendly it is and I am pleased.

What I have realised through trying to attract a larger readership is that people won’t stick unless there is something in it for them. And I don’t blame them, I’d do the same thing. This is where I am failing. I need to post better articles more often to have a better appeal. Sure I do post some great stuff when I have the time but I normally don’t(have the time) and only post 1-2 articles a week. That number isn’t sufficient and neither is the quality of my posts.

So in order for PrimeScape to make a name for itself I’m going to have to start improving my blogging skills. So from this entry onwards I am going to do my best to post 3-4 entries a week.

I also want to take this time to say another 2 things. Firstly I’ve added a ‘blogging’ category to the side bar. Secondly I just want to say something so I won’t forget it. :D I want to present how I want the layout of PrimeScape’s content to run:

I want the blog to be based mainly on games as its a topic that I know a bit about. I still need to blog about my life as I will always want to blog about what’s going on with me. I think that its important that I do that as it adds more depth to my character. Then there’s a bit in there for my photography/design/other where I can talk about these other hobbies of mine.

In anycase the stage is now set. So stay tuned.

User-friendly Tweaks

May 19, 2007

Yay, my brother has finally finished doing the tweaks that I planned out a few weeks back. These tweaks are designed to make this place a bit more user friendly. Its still not perfect but its still the most significant update since the release.

Here’s a run down of what has changed:

-modified site header
-modified site title now: PrimeScape - Games, Design, Life
-Technorati +fav button in the right coloumn
-new contact page with a form
-new subscribe category with little RSS images
-Blogroll has gone underneath Subscribe
-Some stuff has been removed from Meta
-Search has been moved over to the archives area
-MyBlogLog widget has been added
-links are now easily distinguishable
-an Opera tag has been added to the bottom of the page
-Add RSS sentence added to each post
-huge RSS logo has been removed
-the gap between the title and the entry has been reduced
-the comment relish plugin has been installed, need to test that one

I’m very happy with this update as it should hopefully encourage a greater readership and it also makes the site look much more complete. Although Chris hasn’t gotten everything perfect, all shall be fixed in due time. But for the time being its a very welcomed update. In terms of future updates there isn’t really too much beyond admin and a few other plugins and tweaks that probably won’t be noticed.

The site is going well with hits this month, we are looking at being on track with last month. Which is good because most of the hits from last month were from tutorial indexers. I’d be interested in what you think of the changes, so drop us a comment or send me an email via the new Contact form.

Finishing Up

April 12, 2007

Hello folks, another general update.

I’ve been spending a bit of my holiday time fine tunning PrimeScape. So let me run thru some changes that have occured recently. Some of this I might be repeating but anyways:

2 new categories have been added to the list, being Gaming and Tutorials. I’ve been adding tutorials into the tutorial category but it will take a while until all of them are in there. All of the gaming entries have been moved into gaming. I don’t want any categories crossing over so I have removed the game stuff out of Featured entries.

Chris has also fixed the side bar so that everything is correctly aligned and there are no dulicate names. Later today he’ll be adding an RSS link under meta and rearranging some things. Home has also been added under pages.

I’ve been advertising the site a bit to increase hits and it seems to have paid off. RSS subscribers are up and the hits are progressing steadily. I’ll try and keep this going as the content is great I just need more hits. So tell your friends!

I can’t really see any more major updates on the way as the site design is well on its feet. I’ll just be uploading more tutorials and advertising the site.
