Comfortable, Finally

August 6, 2010

It’s quite tough living by yourself in a foreign country, so one of my initial goals on arriving in Wuxi was to just get straight into organising a system of living ASAP. It’s been a little tricky since the school hasn’t been much of a help and various things in my apartment have randomly died on me, but despite all that I think I’ve jumped a hurdle. For my own reference, here is a list of everything I have set up and/or made routine:

  • my own, single-person accommodation
  • a convenient means for travel to and from Shanghai
  • washing and ironing clothes
  • a system and products for cleaning the house
  • wireless internet and my own vpn
  • a regular and convenient eatery
  • a means to clean water
  • a sim card, good rates, long distance calls and easy recharges

Not everything is perfect. My iron is a little worn. My washing machine drains the water and then immediately proceeds to fill the load with water again, as opposed to spinning. One of my phone line ports is broken and so is the handle in my shower. My toilet seems sluggish at the moment, despite being mended a few weeks ago. Still, once I clean the house later tonight, I shouldn’t have any new responsibilities to handle. Go me!
