Most listened Matchbox 20 Current mood Back to routine

UniversityHey guys, its been a packed week. I’ve had my first taste on University life. Which has been overall a good experience. I haven’t actually mentioned what degree I am doing yet. I’ doing a BA of Applied Language and Intercultural Communication(MBAL), I do my language at Uni Adelaide and the rest @ Magill. So it takes about 2hrs to get to Magill. But its worth it as my program is the best language program out there for me. Its very flexible.

For the first 2 years I have a number of linguistic courses, my language major and a free choice elective every semester, which will probably all be design ones. Then later on I do a specialization in a major field, more applied linguistics courses and then a trip overseas.

I’ve made some new friends this week which is great. I’m trying to be general friends with people in my courses and not focus on only a few people. I also have a few friends from my old school in my Chinese class, theres 4 of us in total. They all seem much more cheery than last year. I guess we all are now.

The work load is probably not as bad as I initially thought, I get most of my work at the start of the week. My work load goes something like this:

  • finish my weekly design practical and read notes
  • read linguistics notes, complete any tutorial work
  • master Chinese text, read notes and complete translations

Then I have assignments on top of that, for design I have 2 broucheres/logos to do and a final open book test. For linguistics we have to complete a few written responses(2 a term) to the weekly readings, theres a group presentation and an essay at the end. Chinese has an oral presentation and an exam at the end. But the weekly dictations are definitely the hardest part.

Every Chinese lessons(5hrs worth a week) the teacher will randomly pick someone to answer a question in Chinese. He really puts you on the spot. We also have to read out of the text book aloud too much. He seems to think that if we read off a page then we can orally speak Chinese better. I am terrible at reading off a page but I could speak Chinese to you all day. I just can’t see his logic.

So far I have answered at least 1(probably 2) question wrong in every Chinese lesson, where as everyone else is often perfect. Despite that at least of the class looks suspiciously Chinese and the rest are from rich private schools in town. You know, I’m probably the worst student out of the 35ish students enrolled in the class. Although I keep answering these questions wrong, I guess I’m the only one that stick his hand up and keeps trying.

Conclusion

University was going really good until I had Chinese. It’s not that I don’t enjoy it, its just that I discovered that I have another point to prove. That I have (once again) been thrown into an arena in which I have to really fight to get to where I want to get to. I’m just sick of fighting these battles and having to work to hard to get to where I think I need to be.

I’ve talked about this whole thing saga before. And there’s something that I’ve realized after concluding the last saga(year 12), sure I have to crawl my way back up to the top(not really the top, just my perception of my best), sure it takes forever to get to Magill. But thats the way it has to be.

The holidays have helped me close the lid on all of this stuff. I guess having time to return to who I once was(and not a slave to Physics and Maths) has made me realize something. Sure I have to do these things but they help me to continue to be an even bigger and brighter version of my previous self. And if I didn’t do these things, if I chose the easy option then I wouldn’t be that. And I couldn’t possibly do that. And it’d be really disappointing. I could never be like that.

Saying all of this I feel somewhat big headed. But I’m truely not, I’m just a determined bastard…I guess.

You know, it seems all worth it now, I feel as though I’m where I wanna be and I’m just so happy and we all need to be happy. I spose I can put all of that stuff behind me now. *huge sigh of relief*

A few plugs

I haven’t spent much time on the net much, but I’ve figured that I should make my entries more interesting, so here’s a few plugs.

Only the other day I saw a journal entry from the guy that runs Desktopgraphy, its a beautiful site with gorgeous photographs that are photomanipulated. Anyways in the jornal he showed off a preview for the new 07 set, man its so awesome. Check it out:

I recently picked up some video of the finished Japanese version of the new Fire Emblem game for the Wii. The lack of Wii mote use had made me rather skeptical of the game but after seeing some of the video my opinion on the game has changed dramatically. The game appears to have more of a FE look to it. The battle scenes especially, each character has a short intro to the battles, the camera in which is superb. The characters also look more cel shaded and the game is sped up. Presentation wise the game has a more natural feel to it and its much easier on the eyes. Characters also now don’t walk in a square grid movement, they can walk diagonally when they cut a corner. All of these things make the game have more of a Fire Emblem feel. Which I feel was missing from Path of Radiance. So I’m really apt for this title now.

Fire Emblem

The other game that I’ve been really apt about is MotorStorm for the PS3. Chris has been raving about this game for a while now. But I took no notice as doesn’t know much about games. The reviews had been pretty positive, so I decided to get the IGN video review.

The main reason why I like the game so much is because it actually uses the PS3 hardware to affect the gameplay and make the game so great and unique. It looks like killer fun.

Motorstorm

Anyways thats my blog for this week.

Motor Storm looks like an amazing game, definately one to watch. The PS3 Aussie release is next week so hopefully demo pods should be around the place with it on.

Stick it out with Chinese, that’s what I am doing with Physics. Hopefully it will pay off. :)
